Cipher lock

A padlock guards a field of data blocks: while it stands open a scan wave checks every block, trusted ones cool to ice, hostile ones flare hot and sink into quarantine, and then the lock drops shut and freezes.

  • One GLSL fragment shader in raw WebGL2 that raymarches signed distance fields
  • Padlock built from a bevelled box, an engraved keyhole and a capped-torus shackle, all animated by easing curves inside the shader
  • Domain-repeated data blocks with hashed bobbing and a cell-bounded step that keeps the march artefact-free
  • Penumbra soft shadows, 5-tap ambient occlusion, fresnel rims and a marched floor reflection
  • Adaptive render scale from 0.5 to 1.0, upscaled in a filmic post pass
